You meet a lot of people when working at the home office of a big corporation. I had the pleasure of meeting and working with Katie a few years back - we were both "temps" at the time. It was my first experience working at a "big" corp., and it was a bit overwhelming - finding my way around, meeting so many people, making friends. Katie was the first to befriend me. She helped me to feel part of the team.

Eventually, I left the company, but I returned a year later. Katie had left, too, but eventually came back. It was so nice to see her again, though we were no longer on the same team. Alas, I didn't see her much afterwards, as we worked in different buildings. I thought about her a time back, wondering why I hadn't bumped into her. Perhaps she left the company, I thought.

Fast forward to today. I spy an announcement on the company bulletin board. A fundraiser to benefit a local women's shelter, "In memory of Katie MacDougall..."

I am confused. And so I google her name and get the news.

Beautiful Katie. I'm so sorry.

I listened to DMB today, on my iPod, in my cube, in memory of this lovely young lady. Though 20+ years difference in age, dear Kate and I had this in common - the love of DMB music.

And YES, what a smile. Her eyes even smiled. Can you picture smiling eyes? There you have Ms. Katie MacDougall.

After an earthquake, two men were talking and one asked, "If there was another earthquake, and you knew the world was going to end, what would you do?"
The other guy said, "I'd have sex with the first thing that moves. What would you do?"
The first guy replies, "I'd stand very still."
